Building community through service
Our RAD Community Service Project partner, Aging Resources of Douglas County, is partnering with our students to foster intergenerational opportunities between kids and older adults. Students will get the opportunity to adopt a senior. They will learn all about the ways that we can help our older adults, such as small things like holding the door open for someone, sharing their smile, helping rake leaves, and the importance of remembering someone who might be feeling lonely. Students will write letters to their senior and bring joy and light to others' in doing so. Nothing inspires our CREW more than building strong communities!
Volunteering at RAD
We need your help on Friday, October 11th to assist our Crews with the challenges and service project!
We will have 5 different activity stations running all day, each requiring a few volunteers per 'shift': Fun Run, Dance-a-Thon, Community Art, Adventure Skills, the Service Project, along with First Aid support (nurses only) and more! There are lots of ways to get involved in this community fundraiser event! Spend the day with us making RAD a fun & safe day for our crews!
RAD VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES:
- All volunteers MUST check in at the Volunteer Table before going to your volunteer station to receive your RAD Volunteer Badge. If you have not had your driver's license scanned into the school's RAPTOR system this year, you must also check in at the front desk. (Please do this prior to October 6th to expedite check-in!)
- All volunteers should plan on staying at your station the entire time students are there. 5-10 minute breaks are provided between rotations for you to use the restroom, fill water bottles, etc.
- Please be prepared to be outside for your entire shift (unless working on the service project or for lunchroom support.) Bring water, sunscreen, hats, etc. Please refrain from wandering inside the school building between activities; this presents significant challenges to ensuring student safety during this event.
- Volunteers should check out when they are leaving the REMS campus, however you may stay and observe the outdoor events after your volunteer duties are finished (your student's teacher will provide a schedule when you may observe). If you leave and return for any reason, you MUST check out and back in at the front desk.
- Your child should remain with their Crew at all times. If you wish to check your child out when you finish your volunteering, you MUST notify the teacher and sign them out at the front desk.
