Get to know the amazing Ms. Liesl Bryant, the Renaissance Performing Arts teacher! Ms. Liesl grew up in Boulder County with her mom, dad, little sister, and always a dog or two around the house. She began singing just about as soon as she could talk, and loved music and the outdoors. A fun fact! Her parents named her after the oldest daughter in the Sound of Music, so her name has always fit her well! Her choir and band directors all played large roles in wanting to become a Music Teacher, but specifically her HS Band Director, and undergraduate Choir Director as well as two Voice Teachers. The first time she had that "ah-ha" moment that she knew she wanted to do music for the rest of her life was when she was accepted to All State Band her sophomore year in high school. She went to the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA for undergrad, and earned her Masters at Colorado State University. Liesl chose to major in Music Education because (as any Music Major will tell you) it consumed her life from the moment she set foot on campus. She lived and breathed Music for all four years of undergrad, built strong music foundations, and learned how to have a hard work ethic. Then after a year of substitute teaching (both to give herself a breather and making sure teaching is what she wanted to pursue) she went back for her Masters and learned how to love music again and teach others to love it too! Ms. Liesl is an outdoors-woman at heart, and while she was living in Thailand, she didn't get the chance to fully enjoy all her favorite outdoor activities (fly fishing, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, you name it...) and is SO glad her search for employment in Northern Colorado led her here to REMS! Her Mom always said she’d grow up to be a Music Teacher, Camp Counselor, or Park Ranger, and REMS feels a little like all three in the best combination imaginable! Other than her favorite outdoor activities listed above, she is a travel addict. She made it to her goal of 20 countries before she turned 30, and hope’s to travel to (and maybe someday live in) many more! Her favorite sports are Muay Thai and basketball, and favorite food is Thai food - specifically Khao Soi, a northern-style Thai curry. (Ms. Liesl says she misses it already!) She have been a camp counselor since she was a junior in High School, and have always had the "teaching spirit." Young people inspire her, and she is one who strives to be a life-long learner. If she had to choose one person who inspired her most to be a teacher, it would have to be her Dad. He passed away 6 years ago to ALS, and she often wonder’s what he would think of her life's trajectory up to this point. In her teaching career, she hopes to be like him. She also says her trips abroad (both as an international student and an international teacher) have shaped her career and philosophy dramatically. Seeing how other countries educate their young people is inspiring and makes her want to help shape the ways we as teachers inspire the next generation of learners. “I can't wait to make connections and be a part of the team of staff and students!” ~Ms. Liesl We're so glad you've joined our Crew, Ms. Liesl! |
