Hi REMS! My name is Jenifer Layman and my husband is David. We have two children, Kevin (in 2nd grade) and Kaylee (will be in kindergarten this fall). We love being part of REMS! We could not have imagined a better school for our children. We believe that it takes a CREW to raise children and that is exactly what REMS is!! We are so thankful that we have been able to chaperone voyages, plan the family movie night, run the book fair and serve in multiple other capacities to support the success of REMS. We look forward to continuing to volunteer and meeting more families. WE ARE CREW!!!
Meet our January Volunteer of the month, the Hulley Family!
Jeff and Ashley Hulley are parents to two REMS students, Remi and Briggs, and little Olive in a few years. Our family loves to adventure, we enjoy doing hard things, and we love to challenge others to grow and become the best version of themselves. Volunteering at REMS allows us the opportunity to be a part of the greater community and village that impacts the lives of so many. Going on voyages, helping with climbing week, or showing up in miscellaneous ways for people allows us to make memories with crews and improve the quality of life of those around us. We have been so blessed by the way the REMS community has shown up for us over the years. We are CREW!
Ivonne Acevedo has been a REMS mom since 2016 when her daughter Daniela was accepted in first grade. Then in 2018, Lucas entered kindergarten. Since 2016, Ivonne has been volunteering in different roles; from collecting wine bottles for the wine wall for the Auction for 3 years in a row, to attending three voyages with Daniela and one with Lucas, volunteering at RAD, helping with the OLE, helping teachers in the classrooms, belaying, and many other events. She believes that by volunteering and supporting the school, she is also modeling REMS core values. Moreover, by volunteering at REMS she feels more connected not only to her kids, but to the REMS community. After all, we parents volunteer because we are crew as well!
The Parent Crew is lucky to have you as a volunteer! Thanks for your support, Ivonne!
This month we're excited to recognize one of our amazing volunteers, the Babcock family! Ali was our fearless Back-to-School Carnival chair, and so much more through her family's time at REMS!
The Babcock crew is made up of Ali & Brian, Deacon & Knox (4th & 1st grade) and our recent REMS graduates, Brody & Mason (7th grade). This is our 5th year at this incredible and unique school. I have such respect and love for the teachers we have had over the years who have invested in my children. I’m grateful for how they teach integrity and hold our kids to a higher standard. I volunteer to show my gratitude, to build friendships and community and help provide opportunities for the kids. This year you may have seen me at the carnival, trying to save flying shade canopies in the storm. Twice a year, you can find me in the gym helping the kids rock climb. We love REMS!!! Thanks to all who make it a great place to be!
Thanks for all your support, Ali! We're grateful to have your family here at REMS!
Meet our Parent Crew Volunteer of the month, the Reeder family!
We are the Reeder family. Mark and Sara moved to Castle Rock from Iowa eleven years ago and never turned back. The views drew us in (but let's be honest, the lack of humidity and mosquitoes aren't a terrible selling feature either). We enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and tackling home improvement projects together as a family and are always up for a new adventure. Grayson is currently in 3rd grade at REMS and enjoys playing Minecraft, Roblox, baseball, and working on his ninja skills. Rocklyn is a spicy kindergartener and enjoys soccer, gymnastics, playing Roblox with Grayson, and swimming as much as she possibly can.
Mark and I knew we had found something special when we first toured Renaissance as Grayson entered kindergarten. Their emphasis on education, teamwork, integrity, and exploration was unmatched, and we have been blown away by the incredible opportunities Grayson and Rocklyn have received from Renaissance ever since. We know that experiences like Rock Climbing, RAD Day, the Fall Carnival, and the countless hikes and voyages take an immense amount of work to be successful. We are honored to be able to help wherever we can to help make them possible.
Sara has had the pleasure of helping with several Spring Auctions, RAD Days, and Fall Carnivals, as well as Belaying and assisting in various roles in the kid's classrooms throughout the years. Meanwhile, Mark has enjoyed two Winter Voyages to Keystone Science Center as a Chaperone with Grayson's class.
Renaissance has allowed Grayson and Rocklyn to find others who share their passion for learning and discovery. Mark and I have treasured watching them develop these skills that will stay with them for a lifetime. We are fortunate that Renaissance allows parents to play such an active role in their growth and experiences, and we look forward to seeing what other adventures are to come. Thanks for letting us be a part of their journey!
Meet our Parent Crew Volunteers of the month!
We are the Lanciaux family. Marc is our CEO and Fiona is the COO. We have two children who attend REMS. Everett is seven years old in Ms. Mikaela’s first grade crew and Emma (and true COO) is five years old and in Ms. Lauren’s kindie crew. We’re always on the lookout for our next big adventure! Together we love camping, traveling, rock climbing and hosting gatherings with family and friends. We enjoy volunteering at REMS to go on voyages and belay, as well as helping in the classroom. REMS has such unique volunteering opportunities and we love being a part of the REMS Crew! We can’t wait for our next adventure!
Thanks for being a part of our Parent Crew, Lanciaux family! We appreciate your support!
We are the Hildoer family. We have 5 kids, 4 of which attended Renaissance. Beau is in Kindergarten, Ender is in 3rd and Landon is in 6th. Our 16 year old daughter Lilly attended Renaissance several years ago and our oldest, sadly, did not get a chance to attend. By the time the youngest finishes 6th grade we will have been at Renaissance 13 years! My wife and I grew up in Florida and moved to Colorado in 2010. We spend all year outside, hiking, camping, skiing, biking, swimming, fishing, rock climbing, etc. And when we travel back to Florida we love going to the beach, boating, snorkeling and hitting up the theme parks. We volunteer at Renaissance because what we serve we make better. And, what we serve we love. In that time we have seen amazing people serving, and thus loving, our children. Although we have seen many amazing people leave, we are all fortunate to also see some amazing people come. Overall it just feels right for us to give back and help bridge the gap as life journeys lead great people to and from our school. Also, everything we do with the school is SOO much fun... not just voyages. It really is win-win.
We're so glad you're part of the Parent Crew, Hildoers! Thanks for all you do!
Mr. Rob here. My wife Cheryl and I are parents to Luke in Ms Sarah’s 2nd grade crew and Carter in Ms Tori’s 5th grade crew. We love being outside and exploring. This is our first year at REMS and we are thrilled to be part of this wonderful school. You probably see my wife around the school helping out as Ms Tori’s Crew Parent. I, on the other hand, loved getting to know so many 5th graders through chaperoning on the fall voyage. On voyage, I saw blood, sweat, tears, exhaustion, and frustration turn into perseverance and triumph! It was rewarding to watch the students grow individually and as a team. We love this community and are excited for our twins to join the Kinder crew in the fall.
~We're so grateful to have your support Johnson family!
Kathie Kazan is our November Volunteer of the month! Thanks for all your help around REMS!!
My name is Kathie Kazan and I have a 3rd grader at REMS. I love to volunteer and give back. We came to this school this year because we really appreciate the values they represent here! I am so appreciative of everything REMS has done for my daughter, that I can’t help but want to sign up for every volunteer job. It’s my way of saying thank you.
Meet Ms. Erin Chen, our school librarian!
Why REMS? What about the philosophy, atmosphere, programming made you want to teach/work here?
I was interested in expeditionary learning emphasis here at REMS.
Tell us about one of your favorite things.
Travel, hands down! I spent the last 5+ years living in Greece and exploring that part of the world with my family. My passion for travel and life overseas was sparked by a year I spent living and teaching in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
Most people would be surprised to learn I...
...spent the last 5.5 years living in Greece.
I never go a day without...
Thanks for sharing a little bit about yourself, Ms. Erin! We're so grateful that you joined our Crew!
We are crew
We love to celebrate all of the ways our Parent & Staff Crews make Renaissance a great place to grow and learn!
