Every year, Renaissance is blessed with a large group of volunteers that help make sure that our kids, staff and teachers are supported in a large variety of ways. One of the first events that is ran by our great volunteers is the Back-to-School Carnival. The volunteers that make this happen are planning and working through the summer. We’d like to cast a spotlight on one of the volunteers that helped to make the Carnival a huge success - and she is also the committee lead for those volunteers - Meaghan Vandeloo. We had asked Meaghan a few questions about herself and her family, to help us get to know her a bit better. The Vandeloo family joined Renaissance when their daughter, Jill, started Kindergarten. Even BEFORE their children were in Kindergarten, Meaghan had already jumped in and started volunteering at the “Back-to-School Carnival”. And that was 3 years ago!! In addition to Jill – who is currently in Ms. Gina’s 2nd Grade crew – her son, Eric is in Ms. Kathy’s Kindergarten crew. Kevin (Meaghan’s husband) also spends time at the school, his favorite way to volunteer is to help with belaying. They also have a kitty named Scott (who doesn’t attend 😊). The Vandeloo family moved to Colorado 12 years ago and can’t imagine living anywhere else. They moved from Texas and it still holds a place in their hearts. Currently, Meaghan stays at home, but previously, she worked for a healthcare consulting firm in the DTC. Her passion for the classroom as expanded and she now substitute teachers – so, you may see her in one of the Crews! When asked what she loves about Renaissance, Meaghan’s response “literally everything!” She mentioned the respect the teachers model for the kids, how the teachers guide the students to care for each other – not to mention all the things that all our kids are learning about doing hard things. They feel blessed to be at Renaissance. Meaghan admits that at first, she was nervous working towards getting her volunteer hours as a new parent. She still had a preschooler and didn’t know how to get the hours. But then she heard about the Carnival committee and knew that it would be a great fit for her family. It was a great place for a new parent to jump in and volunteer – and they are always looking for MORE people to come and help! But Meaghan’s favorite thing about working the Carnival was working with and planning out the event with all the other parents. It is an amazing group of people that are outstanding every way – and go above and beyond to make things happen and she enjoys spending time with them. In Meaghan’s words: “Such a great team!” |
